VfL Bochum have confirmed the signing of Christian Rasmussen from Fortuna Düsseldorf on a free transfer, with the forward penning a contract that runs until June 30, 2030. The 23-year-old joins the Bundesliga side after Düsseldorf’s relegation to the 3. Liga at the end of last season triggered a release clause, making him available without a transfer fee.
Rasmussen arrived in Germany last year, joining Düsseldorf from Ajax Amsterdam. While at the Dutch giants, he primarily featured for their reserve team, making 34 appearances and scoring 8 goals. His time at Düsseldorf saw him make 23 appearances across all competitions, contributing with 3 goals and 2 assists, but was unable to prevent the club’s drop into the third tier of German football.
The Denmark youth international has represented his country at various levels, from under-16 to under-21, amassing 34 caps and scoring nine goals. He has yet to earn a senior international cap for Denmark, but his move to the Bundesliga provides a platform for increased visibility.
Bochum’s director of professional football, Simon Zoller, highlighted Rasmussen’s attributes, stating that he “brings high pace, a strong drive towards goal, and great determination in the final third.” Zoller also emphasized Rasmussen’s versatility, noting his ability to play centrally or on either wing, which will provide Bochum with tactical flexibility. The club believes the player still has significant potential for development.
This signing addresses a need for attacking reinforcements for Bochum as they prepare for the upcoming Bundesliga season. Rasmussen’s pace and goal threat could prove valuable as Bochum look to consolidate their position in the league and build upon their recent performances. The long-term contract offered to Rasmussen suggests Bochum see him as a key part of their future plans.
