Sofiane Boufal will leave Le Havre at the end of his loan spell, the player announced on his Instagram account on Wednesday. The 32-year-old Moroccan international expressed gratitude for his time at the club, stating the mission of securing Ligue 1 safety had been accomplished.
Boufal arrived at Le Havre in January from Union Saint-Gilloise, having previously won the Belgian league title with the club. He made a significant impact during his time in Normandy, featuring in seventeen matches, thirteen of which were starts. The winger scored one goal – in a 1-1 draw against Angers – and provided four assists, contributing to Le Havre’s successful fight against relegation.
Le Havre ultimately finished 14th in Ligue 1 with 35 points, three points clear of the relegation play-off spot occupied by Nice. Boufal’s performances were considered key to their survival, offering a creative spark and attacking threat during a crucial period for the club. His departure leaves a void in the Le Havre attack, though the club has achieved its primary objective for the season.
Boufal’s spell with Le Havre followed a challenging first half of the season with Union Saint-Gilloise. Prior to this, he had a stint with Southampton in the English Premier League, where he demonstrated moments of brilliance but struggled with consistency. He also notably represented Morocco at the 2022 World Cup, where he showcased his talent on the international stage. His next destination remains unclear, but several clubs may be interested in acquiring the experienced winger on a permanent deal. The player’s recent form suggests he could still be a valuable asset to a team competing in a top European league.
