Aston Villa have submitted an offer for Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan at Barcelona, according to reports in the Spanish media. The offer comes as United seek to move Rashford on permanently, with Barcelona unwilling to meet the €30 million (£26m, $35m) option to buy included in the loan agreement.
United are reportedly open to selling Rashford to clubs other than Barcelona, and Villa manager Unai Emery, who previously worked with the player during his loan spell last season, has expressed interest. Both Mundo Deportivo and Sport have reported on Villa’s offer, suggesting United believe other clubs will be willing to pay their asking price.
However, Rashford himself is seemingly only interested in a permanent move to Barcelona. Transfer insider Graeme Bailey reports that the England international wants to remain at the Camp Nou and has even agreed to a three-year contract with the Catalan club, potentially accepting a pay cut to facilitate the deal. Sources close to Rashford have indicated to Mundo Deportivo that his focus is “one hundred percent” on staying with Barcelona.
Barcelona are proposing another loan deal for Rashford, with the intention of making the transfer permanent in 2027, a proposal United are unwilling to accept. Incoming Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has also been linked with a move for Rashford, having previously managed him at Manchester United, but the player has dismissed any interest in joining the Spanish giants. Rashford’s current contract with Manchester United runs until June 2028, giving the club some leverage in negotiations, but his clear preference for Barcelona complicates matters. The situation leaves Rashford’s future uncertain as the summer transfer window approaches.
