Grégory Lorenzi has left his position as Sporting Director of Stade Brestois to join Olympique de Marseille, the clubs confirmed on Tuesday. The move comes after ten years of service with Brest, where he oversaw a period of significant growth for the club.
Lorenzi received a farewell celebration ahead of Brest’s match against Strasbourg on Wednesday, being named an honorary citizen of the city by Mayor Stéphane Roudaut. The Mayor highlighted Lorenzi’s contributions, including the club’s promotion to Ligue 1 and their recent third-place finish which secured a Champions League spot. Roudaut also referenced a memorable acrobatic goal scored by Lorenzi during his playing days with Brest in 2009 against Lens.
Lorenzi’s decade at Brest saw him become a key figure in the club’s resurgence. He joined the club as a player before transitioning into a directorial role, demonstrating a deep connection to the Brittany region despite his Corsican origins. His work has been credited with establishing Brest as a competitive force in the French top flight.
While financial details of the move were not disclosed, Lorenzi’s arrival at Marseille is expected to bring stability and experience to their sporting department. Marseille will be hoping he can replicate the success he achieved at Brest, as they look to build a team capable of challenging for domestic and European honours. This move signifies a new chapter for both Lorenzi and the two clubs involved, with expectations high for future achievements.
