Can Uzun considering Eintracht Frankfurt exit with AC Milan interested
Eintracht Frankfurt's teenage talent Can Uzun is reportedly considering a summer departure from the club, with Serie A giants AC Milan showing interest. According to German publication Bild, the 20-year-old attacking midfielder is unsettled following a sharp reduction in his playing time under new head coach Albert Riera.
Riera has utilised Uzun for just 12 minutes across the last two matches, and his recent public comments on player requirements are said to have impacted the young player. Speaking to reporters, Riera emphasised the need for complete performances, stating that players must excel both with and without the ball to earn a place in his team. Bild reports that these remarks left Uzun "deeply affected," accelerating thoughts of a transfer.
The situation has alerted potential suitors, with AC Milan identified as a leading candidate for his signature. A permanent transfer is the anticipated structure of any deal. While a fee exceeding 80 million euros was previously speculated for the highly-rated youngster, Bild suggests Frankfurt's valuation may now be more pragmatic, in the region of 40 to 45 million euros. This adjusted figure is attributed to Uzun's injury issues earlier this year and his current strained standing within the squad.
Uzun, a German youth international of Turkish descent, joined Eintracht Frankfurt from 1. FC Nürnberg in the summer of 2024 for a fee of 12 million euros. He was initially seen as a pivotal part of the club's future, possessing a versatile attacking skillset suited to roles across the frontline or as a number ten. His first season at Deutsche Bank Park showed flashes of his considerable potential, making his reported discontent a significant development for the club's sporting project.
For Eintracht Frankfurt, a sale at the suggested price would represent a substantial profit on their initial investment, providing significant funds for a squad rebuild under Riera's vision. However, it would also mean parting with a player long viewed as a cornerstone asset. For AC Milan, Uzun represents the profile of a young, technically gifted attacker they have frequently targeted, offering a long-term option to refresh their attacking midfield and wide positions.
The coming months will be crucial in determining Uzun's future, with his relationship with Riera and his minutes on the pitch likely to be the deciding factors. Should his situation not improve, a summer move appears increasingly probable, with Milan poised to formalise their interest.
