Former Brazil striker Antonio Careca has discussed a range of footballing topics, including potential moves for Gabriel Jesus and the emergence of young talent. Speaking to Brazilian media, Careca believes Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus would be a valuable addition to either Juventus or AC Milan. “For Italian football, it would be a good coup,” he stated, adding, “I think he would do very well in Italy.”
Careca, who impressed at the 1986 World Cup with five goals in five appearances, also reflected on past greats, comparing Pelé, Diego Maradona, and Lionel Messi. He acknowledged the difficulty in comparing players across different eras, ultimately suggesting Pelé was the most complete, while Messi has the most goals and trophies. He offered a unique perspective on Maradona, noting his extraordinary skill despite physical limitations: “Diego had one leg… he only used the right leg to walk, and yet he did extraordinary things.”
Turning to Serie A, Careca highlighted Inter’s young forward, Pio Esposito, as a player to watch. He praised Esposito’s physicality and eye for goal, noting his successful adaptation to a top club alongside Lautaro Martinez. Careca also expressed admiration for Napoli’s Alisson Santos, praising his dribbling ability and courage to take on opponents. He acknowledged Giovane’s potential but cautioned about the pressures of playing for Napoli.
Regarding the current World Cup, Careca identified France as the clear favorites, while expressing hope that Brazil can reach the final and avenge past defeats. He also supported the inclusion of Neymar in the Brazil squad, stating that the experienced forward could prove crucial in knockout stages. He further commented on Romelu Lukaku’s situation at Napoli, acknowledging that maintaining peak performance becomes more challenging with age.
