Giovanni Carnevali has been officially appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Juventus, the club confirmed during an appearance on Rai Gr Parlamento. The move comes after a swift agreement between Carnevali and the Bianconeri, with the former Sassuolo executive stating he “didn’t hesitate for a moment” when presented with the opportunity. He leaves behind a significant connection with the ownership at Sassuolo, but ultimately felt unable to decline an offer from one of Italy’s most prominent clubs.
Carnevali outlined his initial priorities at Juventus, focusing on strengthening the sporting area of the club. He revealed the immediate appointment of Ricky Massara, a director of considerable experience, to work alongside Marco Ottolini, aiming to create a more robust sporting structure. Massara previously held a role at AC Milan, contributing to their Serie A title win in 2022 and Champions League semi-final run the following season. His arrival is seen as a key step in rebuilding Juventus’s footballing infrastructure.
Further personnel changes include the appointment of Giorgio Chiellini to a role focused on institutional relations, leveraging his experience and position as a federal councilor within the Italian League. Carnevali emphasized the importance of building a strong foundation within the sporting department before addressing other areas, specifically mentioning plans to overhaul the scouting network to encompass both national and international perspectives.
The appointment of Luciano Spalletti as head coach was also highlighted as a crucial element of the club’s future plans. Carnevali described Spalletti as “one of the best” managers in Italy, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver “winning ideas” and build a competitive team. Spalletti joined Juventus earlier this year, following a successful spell with Napoli where he led them to the Serie A title in the 2022-23 season.
Carnevali described his first twenty days at Juventus as “intense and fascinating,” acknowledging the significant resources available to the club. His immediate focus is on integrating himself into the organization and implementing changes designed to return Juventus to a position of dominance in Italian football. The restructuring signals a clear intent to modernize the club’s operations and compete effectively both domestically and in Europe.
