Giovanni Carnevali, Juventus’ newly appointed Chief Executive, is expected to meet with manager Luciano Spalletti in Forte dei Marmi this weekend to discuss the club’s future strategy and potential player transfers. The meeting follows initial phone conversations between the two, with the aim of establishing a clear organizational structure and operational workflow within the club.
Carnevali and Spalletti share a mutual respect cultivated over years within Italian football, both being experienced figures in the game – Carnevali at 67 and Spalletti at 65. Both recognize the urgency of rebuilding the team and avoiding missteps in the transfer market, leading to an initial focus on internal organization and clarifying roles before delving into player acquisitions. The club anticipates potential new additions to the existing staff.
While Carnevali will ultimately have final say on all decisions, he will actively seek Spalletti’s input in shaping the squad. However, Spalletti is not expected to be heavily involved in direct transfer negotiations, unless a deal is nearly complete and requires a clear explanation of the technical project. Sporting Director Ottolini will continue to pursue targets identified by Spalletti, awaiting further direction from Carnevali.
The most pressing issue is the transfer market, with Spalletti prepared to accept the sale of key players to finance new signings. Bremer, Cambiaso, and Thuram have been identified as potential departures, though Yildiz is considered untouchable, with Boga as his backup. Juventus is open to discussing offers for these players. Spalletti is also willing to re-evaluate players who were previously loaned out, but is reluctant to offer further opportunities to those who underperformed last season, including Openda, David, and Koopmeiners.
Juventus aims to secure at least two high-profile international players to enhance the squad’s quality and experience. The priority positions are goalkeeper and striker, with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and RB Leipzig’s Alexander Sorloth currently leading candidates. The absence of Champions League football allows for investment in promising young players who could potentially become future national team regulars. Federico Chiesa and Randal Kolo Muani are being considered to bolster the attack, while Mouhamadou Ndour is a new midfield target, and Kenan Muharemovic is competing with Zeno Debast for the left-sided center-back role. Further discussions between Spalletti and Carnevali could reveal additional transfer targets.
