Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick reportedly believes Marcus Rashford still has a future at Old Trafford, despite the club’s inclination to sell the forward this summer. The information comes from Spanish publication Sport, which has close ties to Barcelona, where Rashford is currently on loan.
Rashford has enjoyed a productive loan spell with Barcelona this season, registering 13 goals and 14 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions. However, Barcelona are unlikely to trigger the €30 million (£26m, $35.2m) option to make the deal permanent, with concerns over his consistency and defensive contribution. They would consider another loan next season, but are also exploring younger, more affordable attacking options.
Carrick, appointed as United’s interim manager in January 2026 following Ruben Amorim’s departure, has been impressed by Rashford’s form in Spain. According to Sport, he values the winger’s performance and believes he could rediscover his best form back in Manchester. This stance contrasts with some within the club’s sporting management, who reportedly favour a permanent sale due to Rashford’s high salary.
Despite Carrick’s support, sources speaking to TEAMtalk indicate that Manchester United have largely decided Rashford’s ‘chapter with the club is effectively over’. The club are open to selling him this summer, with Arsenal and Bayern Munich both monitoring the situation. Rashford himself is reportedly keen to remain at Barcelona, but United are prepared to consider offers from other interested parties. The future of Carrick as manager could be pivotal in determining Rashford’s ultimate destination.
