Manchester United manager Michael Carrick would welcome Marcus Rashford back into the first-team squad, according to former United defender Wes Brown. This comes as Barcelona have allowed their option to sign Rashford on a permanent deal for £26 million to lapse, leaving the England international’s future uncertain.
Rashford spent the recent season on loan at Barcelona, where he reportedly made a positive impact on the pitch and with the club’s supporters. However, Barcelona were only willing to pursue a second season-long loan, deferring the cost of a permanent transfer. United have made it clear they prefer a sale, increasing the possibility of Rashford remaining at Old Trafford.
United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, has already briefed coaching staff to prepare for Rashford’s potential return, as reported by TEAMtalk in July. Brown revealed Carrick’s positive stance, stating the manager would value Rashford’s experience and quality, though acknowledging that agreement between all parties is still needed. Brown noted the previous issues stemmed from a prior management regime under Ruben Amorim.
Recent reports indicate United are now planning for Rashford to begin the new season with the club, with reintegration into Carrick’s squad contingent on no suitable transfer offer emerging before the start of the Premier League campaign. Sources have dismissed suggestions Rashford would be forced to train in isolation, indicating an improved relationship between the player and the club. Despite a desire for a fresh start, both sides are prepared to work professionally towards a resolution.
Brown believes Rashford still has much to offer United, highlighting his status as a youth academy graduate who has contributed significantly to the club. He expressed confidence that Carrick and his staff can find a way to reintegrate the player successfully. Rashford has 76 caps for England, and previously established himself as a key player for United before his loan spell.
