Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is set to leave the club upon the expiration of his contract on June 30th, with Inter Miami the expected destination, though complications remain regarding his arrival in Florida. The Brazilian international was visibly emotional in a farewell documentary released by the club, reflecting on his four years at Old Trafford and expressing gratitude to the fans and staff.
Casemiro joined Manchester United in 2022 for a reported €70 million, becoming a key figure in midfield and contributing to a period of relative stability after a difficult run of form for the club. While his time wasn't without its challenges, the 34-year-old forged a strong connection with the supporters, evidenced by their pleas for him to sign a contract extension during his final appearances. United had offered renewal terms, but ultimately both parties agreed to separate.
In the documentary, Casemiro described his departure as “very special and emotional,” and thanked the club for an “unbelievable” four years. His wife, Anna, revealed the decision was a difficult one for the family, acknowledging the emotional toll of leaving a club they had grown to love. The chants of “one more year” from the United faithful clearly resonated with the family, creating a sense of both gratitude and sadness.
Despite reports from Fabrizio Romano indicating a full verbal agreement with Inter Miami, the transfer is not yet official. A key obstacle remains in securing Casemiro’s Discovery Rights from the LA Galaxy, who initially made contract offers to the player. The Galaxy are reportedly unhappy with Inter Miami’s handling of the process and have requested MLS intervention, potentially seeking a fine for a breach of regulations.
Inter Miami will also need to navigate complex roster rules to accommodate Casemiro, lacking both General Allocation Money and available international slots. This could necessitate trading draft picks or players to create space for the Brazilian. Furthermore, Casemiro is expected to take a significant pay cut to comply with MLS salary cap regulations, as Miami currently have no Designated Player spots available. The move to Miami will allow him to play alongside Lionel Messi, a key factor in his decision, and represents a new chapter in his career.
