Celtic have initiated discussions with the representative of French striker Elias Filet, with sources indicating the Scottish club are currently favoured to secure his signature. The 24-year-old forward has enjoyed a prolific season with FC Aarau in the Swiss Challenge League, registering 22 goals and six assists, attracting attention from several European clubs.
Filet, born in March 2002, has impressed scouts with his finishing ability, aerial prowess, and work rate. Celtic manager Martin O’Neill reportedly views the player as a key addition to strengthen the team’s attacking options for both domestic and European competitions. A video conference between Celtic representatives and Filet’s agent took place on Tuesday, according to sources.
However, Celtic face competition for Filet’s services. Belgian side KRC Genk have already submitted a formal offer, while French club FC Lorient are also in contact with the player’s representatives and are preparing their own bid. Despite this competition, Celtic are hoping to move quickly to secure the deal.
Filet’s current contract with Aarau runs until 2027, but the club are anticipating offers in the region of €600,000 (£520,000/$700,000) for the highly-rated player. His emergence as a transfer target reflects a growing trend of clubs identifying talent in lower leagues across Europe, offering potential value and long-term development.
With the Premier Sports Cup and Champions League qualifiers approaching, Celtic are keen to finalize key signings promptly. The coming days are expected to be crucial in determining Filet’s next destination, as the interested clubs compete to convince him of their respective projects.
