Celtic are in negotiations to sign Egypt international Emam Ashour from Al Ahly, with the Scottish club reportedly told a fee of £4million will secure the deal. According to TEAMtalk, West Ham United are among a number of other clubs monitoring the 28-year-old midfielder.
Sources suggest Celtic face significant competition for Ashour’s signature, with at least three other English clubs also expressing interest. Brighton and Derby County have both scouted the player, while Saudi Arabian side NEOM FC are reportedly prepared to offer a lucrative wage package. The level of interest from across multiple leagues highlights the high regard in which Ashour is held.
Ashour recently played a prominent role in Egypt’s World Cup campaign, starting every match and scoring against both Belgium and Australia as his nation reached the Round of 16. He is a regular starter for Al Ahly and a key member of the Egyptian national team, qualities Celtic believe would translate well to the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic are looking to strengthen their midfield options ahead of another season challenging for the league title and competing in European football. Ashour’s versatility is also seen as a key asset, having played in multiple positions for both club and country, including central midfield, attacking midfield, and even as a right-back. His arrival would offer manager Martin O’Neill greater tactical flexibility.
The Celtic board are known to begin transfer negotiations with lower offers, however, the growing interest from other clubs may force them to move quickly and meet Al Ahly’s £4million valuation. Al Ahly are expected to consider all offers to secure the best possible deal for their player. It remains to be seen if Celtic can convince Ashour that a move to Glasgow is the right step for his career, with a decision expected in the coming weeks.
