Chelsea are encountering complications in their pursuit of several players ahead of the 2026-27 season, according to recent reports. Barcelona have reportedly issued a firm stance against selling Fermin Lopez, despite previous interest from the Blues.
Last summer, Chelsea reportedly submitted a €40million (£34.5m) offer for the 23-year-old midfielder, as reported by The Athletic, but ultimately did not pursue the deal further. Now, Spanish publication El Nacional claims Barcelona view Lopez as an “untouchable” player and will not entertain offers. The midfielder has become a key component of the Barcelona squad, making him a difficult target for any potential suitors.
Further frustration has arisen in Chelsea’s pursuit of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Milan would demand between €40m and €50m (£34.5m to £43.1m) for the 30-year-old. Chelsea previously showed interest in Maignan last summer but were deterred by a valuation exceeding €15m (£12.9m) when he had only one year remaining on his contract. Following a contract extension in January, Milan have significantly increased their asking price.
France manager Didier Deschamps has urged players linked with potential transfers, including Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix, to resolve their futures before the upcoming World Cup. RMC Sport reports that the 26-year-old centre-back could be valued at over €40m (£34.5m) and is attracting interest. Deschamps emphasized the importance of clarity for players representing France in the tournament, stating that a settled situation is preferable to avoid distractions.
Finally, Newcastle United have learned that Jarrod Bowen, also linked with Chelsea, could cost between €46m and €58m (£40m to £50m). The Chronicle reports that Bowen is a target for multiple clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United, following West Ham United’s relegation from the Premier League. Eddie Howe’s side are aware they will face competition and a significant financial outlay to secure the 29-year-old forward.
