Chelsea are on the verge of agreeing a contract extension with young striker Shumaira Mheuka, with a subsequent season-long loan move planned for the 2026-27 campaign. The 18-year-old has less than twelve months remaining on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, though the club possesses an option to extend it by a further year.
According to a report from Football.London, advanced negotiations are underway to secure Mheuka’s long-term future with the Blues. Chelsea intend to announce the new contract alongside confirmation of his loan destination, although several clubs have expressed interest following his impressive performances.
Mheuka enjoyed a breakthrough 2025-26 season, winning the Premier League 2 Player of the Year award after scoring 17 goals in 17 appearances in the competition. He also made four senior appearances for Chelsea, including a Premier League outing against Tottenham Hotspur in May. This form has highlighted his potential and the need for consistent first-team football.
Chelsea’s hierarchy have already facilitated loan moves for several academy prospects this summer, with Jesse Derry joining Sporting CP and Harrison Murray-Campbell moving to KV Kortrijk. A loan for Mheuka is considered essential to continue his development, as he is deemed too advanced for continued play at the Under-21 level. Competition for a place in the Chelsea first team is currently fierce, with Joao Pedro, Emmanuel Emegha, Liam Delap, Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu and Dastan Satpaev all ahead of him in the pecking order.
The England U19 international is viewed by many as a potential future replacement for Harry Kane in the national team. Securing him to a new contract would represent a significant victory for the club. Chelsea are prioritising finding a loan move that guarantees Mheuka regular game time, with interest coming from clubs across Europe and the English Football League.
While other high-profile transfers are anticipated at Chelsea this summer, tying down Mheuka and arranging a productive loan spell could prove to be a crucial piece of business for the club in the long term. An effective loan move is seen as the first step towards Mheuka potentially becoming Chelsea’s first-choice number nine in the future.
