Liverpool will not be signing Kennet Eichhorn this summer, with the 16-year-old midfielder opting to remain in Germany despite receiving what has been described as the ‘most attractive offer’ from the Anfield club. The decision from the Hertha Berlin prospect comes after a breakout season in the 2.Bundesliga, where he became the youngest player ever to feature in the league.
Eichhorn, a Germany under-17 international who primarily plays as a defensive midfielder, made 17 appearances for Hertha Berlin across all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign. His performances attracted interest from several European clubs, including Manchester City and Newcastle United, but Liverpool emerged as strong contenders, submitting a ‘formal offer’ last month.
According to German reporter Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool were prepared to ‘match’ Hertha Berlin’s asking price for the player, exceeding the offers from other Bundesliga sides like Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig. However, Eichhorn has made it clear his preference is to continue his development within Germany. Plettenberg stated on social media that the player “wants to stay in Germany,” with Leverkusen currently leading the chase for a permanent deal.
While the financial package and the stature of Liverpool were appealing, Eichhorn ultimately prioritized remaining in his home country. This represents a setback for Liverpool, who had identified the teenager as a potential long-term addition to their midfield. The club is now focusing on other targets, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott emerging as a leading candidate.
Liverpool are reportedly considered ‘favourites’ to sign Scott, with a potential ‘record-breaking’ deal being discussed. The Cherries are attempting to tie Scott to a new contract, but interest from Arsenal and Manchester United complicates matters. The Reds are also exploring options to bolster their attack, including the possibility of re-signing a former player. This latest development suggests a shift in focus for Liverpool as they navigate the summer transfer window.
