Como are pursuing Galatasaray centre-back Davinson Sanchez as they prepare for their debut Champions League campaign, according to reports in Italy. The newly promoted Serie A side are seeking an experienced and commanding central defender ahead of what is set to be a historic season for the club.
Sanchez, a 30-year-old Colombian international, recently featured at the World Cup, despite missing a penalty in the round of 16 against Switzerland. Como have reportedly been tracking Sanchez for some time and are now accelerating their efforts to bring him to Italy. The club’s manager, Cesc Fabregas, is believed to be a strong advocate for the signing, impressed by Sanchez’s European pedigree.
Negotiations with Galatasaray are proving complex, with the Turkish club seeking between €25-30 million for the player’s transfer. Como have already submitted an offer of €20 million. A further obstacle lies in Sanchez’s salary, which exceeds €3 million net per season due to favourable tax regulations in Turkey.
Como’s sporting director, Charlie Ludi, is working to navigate these challenges. Should a deal for Sanchez fail to materialise, the club have identified alternative targets. Mamadou Sarr, a 2005-born Franco-Senegalese defender currently at Chelsea, is a potential option, with Como leveraging existing contacts with the Blues. The pursuit of Sarr is partially linked to Trevoh Chalobah, who is reportedly favouring a move to Inter, opening up an opportunity for Como to secure Sarr.
Jerome Opoku, a 27-year-old Ghanaian international who plays for Basaksehir, also remains on Como’s radar. Opoku represents a more affordable option, both in terms of transfer fee and wages, compared to Sanchez and Sarr. He also featured for Ghana at the recent World Cup. Securing a high-quality central defender is a priority for Como as they prepare for the challenges of Serie A and Champions League football.
