Como are pursuing a deal for Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Garcia, with the Italian club hoping to replicate the success of their previous arrangement with the Spanish giants for Nico Paz. The move is part of a growing trend of collaboration between Como and Madrid, focusing on developing young talent from Real’s academy, known as La Fabrica.
Como see Garcia as a potential replacement for Paz, though the latter’s future remains uncertain pending the outcome of Real Madrid’s presidential election on Sunday. The club are looking to provide a platform for young players to gain significant playing time while maintaining a degree of control through buyback clauses and percentage-based resale agreements. This “Paz formula” has already proven successful with Jacobo Ramon, and Como believe it offers a mutually beneficial arrangement.
Garcia, a year older than Paz, has already established himself as a promising talent. Last season, the Spaniard made 30 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid, scoring six league goals, two in domestic cups, and four in six Club World Cup matches. His market value is estimated at around €30 million, but Como are exploring options such as a loan with an obligation to buy, potentially tied to performance-based incentives. While Como have funds available, they will be cautious with their spending, particularly given the challenges of competing in the Champions League and a relatively thin attacking squad.
Como’s current attacking options include Douvikas and Morata, though Morata’s future at the club is not guaranteed. Ivan Azon, who recently returned from a successful loan spell at Ipswich Town where he earned promotion to the Premier League, is also in contention. The club are also considering Cesar Palacios as a potential alternative to Paz, with Udinese also reportedly interested in the young playmaker. The potential departure of veteran Dani Carvajal, whose contract is expiring, adds further complexity to Real Madrid’s squad planning. The election outcome will have a cascading effect on the club's managerial situation and overall roster strategy.
This transfer strategy allows Como to acquire promising players at reasonable costs, while Real Madrid can oversee the development of their young talents in a competitive environment.
