Damien Comolli has left his position as Chief Executive Officer of Juventus after just one year, with the club confirming the departure on Tuesday. The move comes after a period where results failed to meet expectations despite significant investment in the playing squad. Juventus have appointed Giovanni Carnevali, formerly of Sassuolo for over a decade, as the new administrator delegate.
Comolli’s exit has been met with a degree of satisfaction, notably from his wife, Selinay Comolli, who shared a post on Instagram expressing her relief at having a husband less consumed by work. The post, accompanied by a picture of flowers, read, “It’s not bad to have a husband who isn’t working/thinking about a club for 20 hours a day, actually.” The message quickly circulated online, prompting reactions from supporters and football commentators.
Following the official announcement of his departure, Comolli released a farewell message through the club’s official channels. He thanked John Elkann and Exor for the opportunity to work at Juventus, as well as his colleagues for their dedication and professionalism. He also expressed gratitude to the club’s supporters, acknowledging their crucial role in making Juventus a unique and special institution.
Financial details released by Juventus revealed that Comolli will receive a severance package of €850,000, and the club has waived its right to reclaim the sign-on bonus paid upon his initial appointment in June 2025. The agreement was approved by the club’s Nomination and Remuneration Committee.
The appointment of Carnevali signals a potential shift in Juventus’s transfer strategy. Carnevali is known for his focus on developing Italian talent, a philosophy he successfully implemented during his time at Sassuolo. This approach represents a return to tradition for Juventus, who historically built successful teams around a core of Italian players. In recent seasons, the club had increasingly focused on recruiting foreign players, often fielding teams with limited Italian representation. Carnevali’s arrival suggests a renewed emphasis on nurturing domestic talent and integrating it into the first team.
