Crystal Palace have expressed interest in signing Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back Arthur Theate, according to a report in Sport Bild. The Premier League club are considering a move for the 26-year-old Belgian international during the upcoming transfer window.
Eintracht Frankfurt would reportedly be open to selling Theate for a fee between €20 million and €25 million. The Bundesliga side signed Theate permanently from Stade Rennais in January 2025, following a successful loan period, for a reported €13 million. His versatility, being able to play as both a central defender and a left-back, is likely a key attribute appealing to Palace manager Oliver Glasner.
Theate has become a regular fixture in the Eintracht Frankfurt squad since his arrival, making 33 appearances across all competitions last season. During that time, he scored one goal and provided one assist, establishing himself as a reliable defender in the Bundesliga. He has also represented Belgium at international level, currently participating with the national team at the World Cup.
Crystal Palace are potentially seeking defensive reinforcements ahead of next season, and Theate fits a profile of a young, established player with experience in a top European league. The club’s interest may also be influenced by the appointment of Glasner, who is familiar with the Bundesliga and its players. Should Palace pursue the transfer, the fee would represent a significant investment, but one that could strengthen their defensive options for the long term. This move could allow Palace to address a need in the backline and provide competition for existing players.
