Bayern Munich are open to considering offers for Alphonso Davies, but the Canadian international is reportedly determined to remain at the Allianz Arena, according to a report in the Abendzeitung newspaper this week. The full-back’s stance comes despite the recent arrival of Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt, who will provide competition for the starting role.
Davies joined Bayern from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019, initially on loan before the move was made permanent later that year. He quickly established himself as a key player, showcasing his exceptional pace and attacking prowess from the left-back position, becoming a Champions League winner in 2020. However, his form has fluctuated in recent seasons, with injuries impacting his consistency.
The potential for Davies to leave Munich arose from ongoing discussions regarding a contract extension, which were ultimately resolved in early 2025. The club confirmed the agreement includes a significant signing bonus alongside an annual salary of €15 million, plus performance-related bonuses. This new deal appears to have solidified Davies’ commitment to Bayern.
While Bayern may have been willing to explore potential sales to recoup a significant transfer fee or to reshape their squad, Davies’ desire to compete for his place suggests he is prepared to challenge Brown and other contenders for the starting spot. He is currently focused on regaining full fitness after a recent injury. The club will likely support his ambition to remain a key part of their squad.
The situation suggests Bayern’s willingness to listen to offers was more of a contingency plan during contract negotiations than a firm desire to sell. Davies’ commitment, backed by a lucrative contract, provides stability to the left-back position and allows Bayern to focus on other areas of squad improvement. This outcome likely strengthens Bayern's defensive options heading into next season.
