Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi is under pressure to secure Champions League qualification next season following planned significant investment in the squad, according to former Spurs player Jermaine Jenas. The club is preparing a triple transfer deal worth £212 million to bolster the team’s performance after a difficult season which saw them narrowly avoid relegation.
Tottenham have already agreed deals to bring Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson to the club on free transfers, but the major spending is yet to come. A £100 million package for Sandro Tonali is progressing, and the club is also expected to pursue Manchester City winger Savinho for a fee of around £60 million. Jenas believes that the ambition behind these signings necessitates a return to European competition.
Speaking to TEAMtalk, Jenas stated that De Zerbi’s primary objective must be to challenge for a Champions League place, noting the expansion of Champions League qualification spots to five for the Premier League. He emphasized the need for stability with one manager throughout the season, but acknowledged De Zerbi’s ambition and the expectation that the new signings will be competing at the highest level.
Jenas highlighted the need for improvement in Tottenham’s attacking options, pointing to injuries impacting the form of Dominic Solanke and Mohammed Kudus last season. He specifically endorsed the potential signing of Savinho, praising his Premier League experience and creativity. Savinho’s arrival would address a key area of concern for De Zerbi as he looks to reshape the Spurs attack.
Further transfer activity is also anticipated, with Tottenham reportedly in talks for a young talent from Cologne, although the deal is complicated by the player’s family wanting his brother to be included in any transfer. These ongoing negotiations demonstrate the club’s commitment to strengthening the squad across multiple positions this summer. The expectation at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is rising as De Zerbi prepares for his first full season in charge.
