Borussia Dortmund are considering a move for AS Roma forward Matías Soulé this summer, according to reports in Italy. Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Dortmund could make an enquiry for the 23-year-old Argentinian international, who is reportedly seeking a new challenge after two seasons in the Italian capital.
Soulé joined Roma from Juventus in 2022 for a fee of nearly €29 million, and has established himself as a versatile attacking option for the Serie A side. However, the same report suggests that Soulé is keen to begin a new chapter in his career, prompting Dortmund’s interest. He currently has a contract with Roma that runs until 2029.
The potential transfer could prove difficult to complete due to Roma’s valuation of the player. The club are believed to be seeking a fee in the region of €35-40 million for Soulé, a figure that may stretch Dortmund’s budget. Sky Sports have previously reported on Dortmund’s cautious approach to large transfer fees, particularly in the current financial climate.
Dortmund previously expressed interest in Soulé last summer, but a deal failed to materialise. This renewed interest suggests that the Bundesliga club see him as a potential addition to their attacking options, particularly given their need to refresh the squad following a disappointing season. Aston Villa and Bournemouth are also monitoring Soulé’s situation, adding potential competition for his signature.
Should Soulé complete a move to Dortmund, it would likely provide him with a platform to showcase his abilities in the Champions League. The transfer would also allow Roma to recoup a significant portion of the fee they paid to Juventus two years ago, potentially allowing them to reinvest in other areas of the squad.
