Borussia Dortmund are set to sign Konstantinos Karetsas from Genk in a deal worth €32 million, according to Sky Sports. A verbal agreement has been reached between the two clubs after weeks of negotiations, with the transfer contingent on the 18-year-old successfully completing a medical.
The attacking midfielder will sign a contract with the Bundesliga side that runs until 2031. The deal includes add-ons, which Sky Sports reports are realistically achievable, boosting the initial fee. Karetsas has quickly emerged as a promising talent, demonstrating significant creative output for Genk.
Last season, the Greece international registered 11 assists in the Belgian Pro League, playing a key role in their attack. He also contributed two goals during Genk’s Europa League campaign, which ended in a Round of 16 defeat to SC Freiburg. Karetsas has also begun to establish himself on the international stage, scoring three goals in ten appearances for the Greek national team.
Karetsas’s arrival at Dortmund addresses a clear need for attacking reinforcements. Sporting director Ole Book remained in Germany while the rest of the squad travelled to Japan for pre-season preparations, overseeing the final stages of the transfer. Book has also confirmed the club are pursuing a second attacking target, with Köln’s Said El Mala identified as a potential addition to Edin Terzić’s squad.
The signing of Karetsas provides Dortmund with a young, dynamic playmaker who could potentially become a key figure in their midfield for years to come, adding further depth to their attacking options as they aim to challenge Bayern Munich’s dominance in the Bundesliga.
