Fiorentina have secured the services of Romanian defender Radu Dragusin on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, with an option to buy, the club confirmed to Sky Sport Italia. The 22-year-old arrives in Florence seeking more consistent playing time after a limited spell in North London.
Dragusin expressed his delight at joining Fiorentina, stating his long-held affection for Italian football and the tactical nature of Serie A. He also highlighted his existing relationship with Tottenham’s former sporting director Fabio Paratici as a factor in the move. “Italy has always had a special place in my heart. Serie A is always a very tactical league,” Dragusin said.
He joins a Fiorentina side preparing for the new Serie A season and a campaign where they will hope to build on recent successes. Dragusin acknowledged the appeal of the club’s project, describing his decision as a “simple choice” and expressing a desire to grow and improve alongside his new teammates. He was quick to downplay immediate ambitions, stating it was “premature” to discuss objectives.
The Romanian centre-back previously played in Italy with Genoa and Juventus’s Next Gen team, gaining valuable experience in the league. He joined Tottenham in January 2024 but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, hampered by an injury that limited his appearances towards the end of last season. Dragusin affirmed he is now fully recovered and physically prepared for the challenges ahead.
Dragusin also thanked Tottenham for the opportunity to develop as a player and a person, referencing their Europa League win as a positive experience. He noted a prior connection with Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Grosso, having played under him at Frosinone in Serie B. The loan deal includes a purchase option for Fiorentina, which could become an obligation depending on certain conditions, though details of those conditions have not been disclosed. The move allows Dragusin to return to a league he is familiar with and potentially reignite his career.
