Manchester United’s agreement to sign Ederson Silva from Atalanta remains unconfirmed due to the player’s continued involvement in the Copa América with Brazil, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Red Devils reached a verbal agreement with Atalanta roughly one month ago, in early June, for a fee of €40.5 million plus €4.5 million in add-ons.
Ederson completed the first part of his medical examination in New York last month, but the club is awaiting his return to England to complete the second, more comprehensive medical assessment. His participation in the Copa América initially saw him left out of the Brazil squad, but a late call-up to replace the injured Roma full-back Wesley has extended his time in North America.
Romano clarified on his YouTube channel that the delay is purely logistical, stating that both clubs have a verbal agreement and the necessary documents are prepared. He emphasized that the hold-up is not indicative of any issues with the transfer itself, but simply a matter of completing the medical process. “They (Man Utd) have a verbal agreement with Atalanta,” Romano stated. “So the two clubs have an agreement since one month ago…waiting on the second part of the medical, the official one with Manchester United.”
Ederson, a Brazilian international midfielder, has been identified as a key target for Manchester United as they look to bolster their midfield options this summer. The 26-year-old has impressed with his performances for Atalanta in Serie A, demonstrating his ability to contribute both defensively and offensively. His arrival at Old Trafford would provide manager Erik ten Hag with greater depth and quality in the centre of the pitch. The completion of this transfer will allow the club to focus on pursuing further targets in the transfer window, potentially adding additional reinforcements in midfield and other positions.
