Chelsea are actively pursuing several targets as the summer transfer window progresses, with bids made for Granit Xhaka and interest intensifying in Ayyoub Bouaddi, Maxence Lacroix, and Maxi Araujo.
The most advanced deal appears to be the potential signing of Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix. According to Jeunes Footeux, the transfer is a significant development for his former club, Sochaux, who are set to receive a substantial financial benefit through FIFA’s solidarity contribution mechanism. If the reported €55 million fee is accurate, Sochaux could receive over €1 million, representing a considerable sum for a club with an annual budget of approximately €14 million.
In a surprising move, Chelsea have submitted an opening bid of €30 million for Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka, as claimed by journalist Luca Cerchione. The 33-year-old Switzerland international recently enjoyed a successful season with Bayer Leverkusen, winning an unbeaten domestic double under Xabi Alonso. The new Chelsea manager is reportedly a strong advocate for Xhaka’s acquisition, which would potentially net Sunderland a €15 million profit.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi faces competition from Manchester City, according to Fabrizio Romano. While Bouaddi is a key target for Chelsea, Manchester City are prepared to offer Lille a deal that would see the 18-year-old Moroccan starlet remain with the Ligue 1 club for another season. Chelsea and Arsenal are both hoping to secure Bouaddi’s signature this summer, while City are planning a move for 2027.
Further bolstering their options, Chelsea are locked in a battle with Manchester United for Sporting CP wing-back Maxi Araujo, as reported by Record. Araujo has impressed following a strong showing at the World Cup, despite Uruguay’s early exit. Valued at €70 million, the left-sided wide man is attracting significant interest, though Chelsea are currently considered the frontrunners for his signature. These moves signal a period of significant investment and restructuring at Stamford Bridge as the club aims to reinforce its squad for the upcoming season.
These potential signings indicate a clear strategy from Chelsea to blend experienced players like Xhaka with promising young talents such as Bouaddi and Araujo, while also addressing defensive vulnerabilities with the addition of Lacroix.
