Liverpool have informed winger Federico Chiesa that he is free to find a new club this summer, according to Football Insider. The club are reportedly seeking a fee of between £10-15 million for the Italy international, who arrived at Anfield last year for around £12.5 million from Juventus.
The decision comes despite recent statements from Chiesa himself indicating a desire to compete for a place under new manager Andoni Iraola. He recently told Gazzetta dello Sport that he intends to participate in pre-season and fight for his position, having felt he was assured of his place by Arne Slot in January.
However, Liverpool’s pursuit of Yan Diomande, following the signing of Victor Munoz, suggests Chiesa will fall further down the pecking order. Fabrizio Romano reported on his YouTube channel that Chiesa's current intention is to participate in pre-season and attempt to impress Iraola, but the club’s stance indicates a departure is likely.
Chiesa’s time at Liverpool has been hampered by injury issues, limiting his impact since joining the club. He has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, playing a bit-part role over the past two seasons. The player himself acknowledged a lack of consistent playing time, stating he would need to “look elsewhere” if he couldn’t secure it in the Premier League.
Selling Chiesa would allow Liverpool to recoup a significant portion of the fee they paid for him and free up space in the squad for new additions. While his desire to stay is noted, the club appears determined to move in a different direction, prioritizing players who fit Iraola’s plans more directly.
