Mathys Detourbet has completed a transfer to Manchester City for a reported fee of €25 million, Troyes announced on Saturday. The move sees the 19-year-old winger join a club within the City Football Group, with an immediate loan spell to Monaco anticipated as part of the agreement. L’Équipe first reported the impending transfer on May 15th.
Detourbet enjoyed a breakthrough season with Troyes, playing a key role in their return to Ligue 1 and subsequent successful campaign. He registered three goals and six assists in the French top flight, establishing himself as one of the team’s most influential players. Troyes finished 17th in Ligue 1, securing their safety on the final day of the season.
Manchester City’s acquisition of Detourbet aligns with the City Football Group’s strategy of identifying and developing young talent across its network of clubs. The group owns or partially owns teams in multiple countries, facilitating player movement and providing opportunities for development. The reported loan to Monaco offers Detourbet the chance to gain regular first-team experience in a competitive league.
Monaco will have an option to purchase Detourbet at the end of the loan period, according to reports. This structure allows Manchester City to retain a potential asset while providing Detourbet with a clear pathway to continued progression. The principality club finished third in Ligue 1 last season, securing Champions League qualification.
Detourbet progressed through the youth ranks at Troyes before making his first-team debut in 2022. His performances quickly attracted attention from larger clubs, and Manchester City moved swiftly to secure his signature. The transfer represents a significant step up in Detourbet’s career, offering him the opportunity to play at a higher level and potentially compete in European competitions. This move could provide Monaco with a dynamic attacking option as they prepare for their Champions League campaign.
