Como are considering a move for Real Madrid right-back Daniel Carvajal, who will be a free agent when his contract expires on July 1st, according to reports from Spain. The newly promoted Serie A side, having secured their first-ever qualification for the Champions League, are looking to bolster their squad with experienced players capable of competing in Europe.
Carvajal departs Real Madrid after thirteen seasons with the club, having won 27 trophies including six Champions League titles. Despite being 32 years old, the Spaniard remains a sought-after player, and Como have emerged as a potential destination. The club’s head coach, Cesc Fabregas, is reportedly a key advocate for bringing Carvajal to Italy.
Fabregas and Carvajal were opponents for many years and briefly teammates for the Spanish national team in 2014 under Vicente Del Bosque, earning four caps together. The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder believes Carvajal’s leadership and experience would be invaluable as Como navigate their debut Champions League campaign. The club already has a connection with Real Madrid, with Jacobo Ramon currently in their squad.
Como are also attempting to secure the permanent signing of Nico Paz, an Argentinian midfielder who is currently with Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the Copa America. The club, along with Fabregas, are keen to retain Paz, viewing him as a crucial part of their long-term project. Discussions with Real Madrid have also included interest in 20-year-old forward Gonzalo Garcia, who scored eight goals in 38 appearances last season.
Juventus are also monitoring Garcia’s situation, indicating potential competition for his signature. Carvajal’s arrival at Como would add considerable quality and experience to their squad, providing a solid defensive option and a proven winner.
