Inter Milan are in advanced talks to sign Curtis Jones from Liverpool, potentially completing the transfer in early June, according to reports from Italy. Inter’s sporting director Cristian Chivu has been a strong advocate for the English midfielder, pushing for his acquisition in recent weeks.
While Inter also have an interest in Atalanta’s Marco Palestra, acquiring him is proving more difficult due to the complexities of negotiating with the Bergamo club. Palestra remains a priority for the right-back position, but the club is looking at alternative options to strengthen the squad more immediately.
Jones, 25, has one year remaining on his contract with Liverpool and is reportedly open to a move to Italy, favouring Inter over interest from Galatasaray. The midfielder has struggled for consistent playing time at Anfield, and a move to Italy would offer him a fresh start and a key role in Chivu’s midfield. He came through the Liverpool academy and has been a part of the first team for several seasons, but has not always been a regular starter.
The primary obstacle to the deal remains the transfer fee. Inter have so far offered around €20 million, while Liverpool are seeking over €30 million, similar to the amount requested by Galatasaray. Negotiations are ongoing, focusing on a potential percentage of any future resale value to bridge the gap between the two clubs. Liverpool are keen to avoid a repeat of the situation with Ibrahima Konate, who left on a free transfer, and are therefore reluctant to significantly lower their asking price for a player developed within their academy.
Inter are also planning to reshape their midfield, with Davide Frattesi potentially used as a makeweight in a deal for Palestra. Henrikh Mkhitaryan has agreed to a one-year contract extension at a reduced salary, providing further stability in the squad. The arrival of Jones would add tactical versatility and intensity to the midfield, aligning with Chivu’s vision for the team. Inter hope to finalize the transfer quickly to fend off competition from Galatasaray.
