Liverpool are reportedly showing significant interest in Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt, according to Danish source Bold. The 20-year-old has impressed scouts from the Merseyside club with his performances for both Porto and the Denmark national team.
Liverpool underwent a substantial overhaul last summer, spending approximately £440 million on players including Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giovanni Leoni. Despite this investment, the season has been disappointing for Arne Slot’s side, necessitating further squad strengthening.
The Reds are expected to prioritise signings in multiple positions this summer, including replacements for Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, as well as potential additions in midfield, at left wing, right-back and centre-half. The club’s need for midfield reinforcements could increase should Curtis Jones or Alexis Mac Allister depart.
Porto signed Froholdt from Copenhagen for around £19 million last summer and could be set to make a significant profit. His current contract includes an €85 million (£73.5 million) release clause, which Porto are likely to demand should they entertain offers. The Dane has already demonstrated a winning mentality, having secured a domestic double with Copenhagen prior to his move to Portugal, and has now added a Primeira Liga title with Porto to his honours.
This season, Froholdt has contributed eight goals and six assists in 50 appearances for Porto. The Scouting App describe him as a ‘modern, intelligent midfielder’ who is ‘clean and composed’ in possession, ‘well balanced and mobile’ physically, and displays ‘maturity beyond his age’. While Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace is currently considered Liverpool’s primary midfield target, Froholdt has reportedly been added to the club’s shortlist.
Arsenal and Newcastle United are also said to be interested in the player, potentially creating a transfer battle between the three Premier League clubs. Inter Milan, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle have all expressed interest in Jones, while Mac Allister is reportedly on Real Madrid’s radar as they seek to strengthen their midfield options.
