Manchester United are expected to complete a medical for Atalanta midfielder Ederson on Sunday, according to reports from Italy, as Michael Carrick looks to solidify his first signings as the club’s permanent manager. The medical will take place in New York, following Ederson’s recent call-up to the Brazil squad for the World Cup after an injury to Roma’s Wesley.
The 26-year-old is poised to join United for a fee of €45 million, with a further €4 million potentially payable in performance-related add-ons. The deal, which has been in place for almost a month, beat competition from Atletico Madrid, with only final formalities remaining before confirmation.
Alongside the imminent arrival of Ederson, Manchester United are also actively pursuing Newcastle defender Lewis Hall. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the club has “kept the contacts alive and active with those close” to the player, indicating a genuine interest in bolstering their left-back options. United made initial contact several weeks ago and view Hall as a suitable target.
Romano emphasized that while midfield remains a priority – with Ederson’s transfer nearing completion and potentially another midfielder to follow – strengthening the left side of defense is also a key objective for Carrick. The pursuit of Hall suggests a proactive approach to addressing multiple squad needs during the transfer window.
The addition of Ederson would provide United with a dynamic presence in midfield, while Hall would offer competition and depth at left-back. These signings signal Carrick’s intent to reshape the squad and build a team capable of challenging for top honors. The quick progress on these deals suggests a focused and efficient transfer strategy is being implemented at Old Trafford.
