Liverpool could allow midfielder Alexis Mac Allister to leave this summer as new manager Andoni Iraola seeks to reshape the squad, according to reports. The potential sale comes after a period of significant change at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson already departing, and Ibrahima Konate leaving on a free transfer.
Iraola was appointed earlier this month following the departure of Arne Slot, who oversaw a fifth-placed Premier League finish after a title-winning campaign. The club is now actively looking to strengthen the central midfield area, leading to speculation about Mac Allister’s future. The Argentina international, who arrived from Brighton in the summer of 2023 for an initial £35million, has been a regular starter but could be sacrificed to raise funds.
Mac Allister’s agent and father recently stated that the player has a contract until June 2028 and that no discussions about a renewal have taken place, adding that the club has not initiated negotiations. This has fuelled speculation regarding a potential move, with Real Madrid heavily linked with the 25-year-old.
Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke suggests that Liverpool may be “reluctantly” willing to cash in on Mac Allister, citing his continued value as a World Cup winner. Fabrizio Romano has also indicated that Mac Allister’s situation could develop during the transfer window if a suitable proposal is received. Liverpool are reportedly hoping to recoup around £80 million (€92.6m / $107m) for the midfielder.
The need to sell players is driven by Liverpool’s desire to strengthen the squad overall, and Mac Allister's departure would provide financial flexibility to pursue other targets. Should Mac Allister move to Real Madrid, it would represent a significant sale for Liverpool and allow Iraola to invest in reinforcements.
