Manchester United have initiated discussions with West Ham United regarding a potential transfer for winger Crysencio Summerville, according to Italian journalist Nico Schira. The Red Devils have reportedly offered the Dutch international a five-year contract, with an option for a further year, extending until 2032.
This move comes as United seek to bolster their attacking options following a successful season which saw them secure Champions League qualification. Qualification for the Champions League has also provided a boost to the club’s transfer budget, allowing them to pursue higher-profile targets. Manager Michael Carrick’s side finished third in the Premier League, and the club is prioritizing the addition of a left-winger this summer.
Summerville, 22, recently scored his first goal for the Netherlands national team in a 2-2 draw against Japan. He has become a key player for West Ham, contributing consistently in the Premier League. While an initial offer from United is expected to fall short of West Ham’s valuation, the opening of talks signals a serious interest from the Old Trafford side.
David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that West Ham are likely to demand around £50 million for the player, who is under contract until 2029. The potential sale of Marcus Rashford, whose loan spell at Barcelona has concluded, could also influence United’s pursuit of Summerville. The club is also simultaneously pursuing a deal for West Ham teammate Mateus Fernandes, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that they are in ‘direct contact’ over a potential transfer, though West Ham are currently seeking a fee in the region of £85 million for the Portuguese midfielder. Securing either player would significantly strengthen United’s squad ahead of the new season and provide competition for places in the forward line.
