OGC Nice are considering a move for goalkeeper Gauthier Gallon, according to L’Équipe. The 33-year-old is a potential replacement for Maxime Dupé, whose contract with the club has expired and who recently joined Nantes. Nice are actively seeking a backup option for current first-choice goalkeeper Yéhvann Diouf.
Gallon is currently a free agent, having most recently played for Belgian side Dender, where he made 16 appearances before sustaining a knee injury in May. Prior to his spell in Belgium, the former Rennes player accumulated significant experience in Ligue 1, featuring in 62 matches across his career. His familiarity with the French top flight is seen as a significant advantage by the Nice hierarchy.
The departure of Dupé has prompted the need for reinforcement in the goalkeeping department at the Allianz Riviera. While Nice are reportedly open to strengthening their squad, the club’s financial situation necessitates a focus on free transfers and player sales. Acquiring Gallon on a free contract aligns with this strategy, allowing them to address a key position without significant expenditure.
Gallon began his professional career with Rennes, progressing through their youth system before establishing himself as a regular in the first team. He later had spells at Lorient and Caen, consistently demonstrating his capabilities in Ligue 1. Despite being born in Nice, he has never previously represented the club, making a potential move a homecoming for the experienced shot-stopper. The addition of Gallon would provide valuable competition and depth to Nice’s goalkeeping ranks as they prepare for the upcoming season.
