Rangers have had an initial offer of approximately €2.5million for United States international Bryan Reynolds rejected by Westerlo, according to TEAMtalk. The Scottish club are seeking to strengthen their squad ahead of a challenging season encompassing both Scottish Premiership and European commitments.
Rangers identified the 24-year-old as a key target to improve their defensive options, with Reynolds having impressed since joining Westerlo in 2022 following a spell with Roma. He is known for his athleticism and ability to contribute offensively from the right-back position, as well as his versatility across the defensive line.
Despite the setback, sources close to the negotiations indicate that Rangers remain optimistic about reaching an agreement with Westerlo. Reynolds himself is reportedly keen on a move to Ibrox, viewing the opportunity to play for a club with Rangers’ history and in a competitive league as an attractive proposition.
Westerlo are believed to be holding out for a fee in the region of €4-5million for Reynolds, creating a valuation gap of roughly £2million between the two clubs. The Belgian side are confident in their ability to attract further bids, particularly with growing interest in the American market.
Reynolds’ current contract with Westerlo is set to expire in the summer of 2027. His willingness to move to Rangers could prove crucial in negotiations, potentially deterring other clubs from entering the race. Manager Danny Rohl is keen to add depth to his squad and believes Reynolds possesses the mentality required to compete on multiple fronts.
The American has earned 10 caps for the United States national team and has experience playing in both Serie A and the Belgian top flight, making him a potentially valuable addition to the Rangers squad. Rangers are expected to submit a second bid within the next 48 hours in an attempt to secure the player’s signature. Should the move fail, the club may consider re-approaching Everton regarding right-back Nathan Patterson.
