VfB Stuttgart secure future of academy goalkeeper Florian Hellstern
VfB Stuttgart have confirmed that young goalkeeper Florian Hellstern has signed a new long-term contract with the club. The 18-year-old academy product has committed his future to the Bundesliga side, with reports from BILD suggesting the deal will run until at least 2030.
Sporting Director Fabian Wohlgemuth outlined the club's faith in the player's development. "Florian Hellstern has progressed step by step through the VfB youth academy over the past few years," Wohlgemuth said. "He has impressively demonstrated his qualities this season in the 3. Liga as well as in numerous training sessions with the first team. Florian has the potential to develop into a top goalkeeper at the highest level in the coming years."
The Bad Cannstatt native has been with Stuttgart since the under-11 level, progressing through every age group over nine years. His current season has been a significant step forward, as he has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for Stuttgart's under-21 side in Germany's third tier, making 25 appearances so far. His form at that level has been complemented by increased involvement with the senior squad under manager Sebastian Hoeneß, having been named in the matchday squad for ten UEFA Europa League fixtures this campaign.
Hellstern's development was also showcased on the European stage last season, where he delivered strong performances across eight matches in the UEFA Youth League, helping Stuttgart's youth side reach the quarterfinals. His progress has been recognized at international level as well; the goalkeeper is a regular for Germany's youth national teams and has already earned 23 caps for his age group.
For Stuttgart, securing Hellstern represents a commitment to their youth pathway and provides long-term stability in the goalkeeping department. The club has a history of developing talent from within, and this move signals their belief that Hellstern can eventually compete for a first-team role. For the player, the contract offers security and a clear path to continue his development within a familiar environment, potentially positioning him as a future homegrown starter for the senior side.
