Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti will remain in his position for the next two seasons, despite the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, according to reports from Torino. The decision was communicated by Juventus and Exor chairman John Elkann, effectively dismissing any doubts surrounding the Italian manager’s future.
Spalletti had reportedly considered resigning following a damaging defeat to Fiorentina, with Monday and Tuesday described as particularly difficult days for the coach. However, Elkann’s vote of confidence, and a contract renewal extending through June 2028, have seemingly restored the manager’s focus ahead of the upcoming Turin derby. The club is seeking a positive response from the team in the derby, with a potential reassessment planned should they underperform.
Elkann has been impressed with the style of play Spalletti has implemented at Juventus, despite recent setbacks. A strong rapport developed between the two men following Spalletti’s appointment last autumn, leading to the decision to continue the project beyond the current season. The initial contract renewal was intended to signal long-term commitment regardless of Champions League qualification.
Following the derby, Spalletti will discuss potential squad reinforcements with Elkann. He has identified five key areas for improvement: a goalkeeper (reportedly Alisson), a ball-playing defender (with Kim Min-jae as a potential target), a regista (Lobotka is said to be his preferred choice), a trequartista, and a reassessment of the striker position, with Dusan Vlahovic’s future uncertain. These additions are viewed as crucial to mounting a Serie A title challenge next season. The ownership group has expressed its trust in Spalletti’s vision, and the manager is now focused on securing a positive result in the derby and demonstrating team commitment.
