Federico Spalletti, son of Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti, will leave his position as a scout at the Turin club to join Genoa, effective this July. The move was reported by Italian news outlet Gazzetta Mondiale on Friday, and represents a career decision for Spalletti rather than a technical shake-up within Juventus.
Federico Spalletti initially joined Juventus’ scouting staff in 2024 under the direction of sporting director Giovanni Giuntoli, focusing primarily on youth sector analysis. Prior to his time at Juventus, the 1995-born Spalletti gained professional experience with Udinese in 2023 following his completion of a scouting course at Coverciano in the autumn of 2022. His arrival at Juventus allowed him to work alongside his father, Luciano, for the first time in a professional capacity.
Known to friends and family as “Chicco,” Federico Spalletti holds a degree in philosophy from Kalamazoo College in Michigan, and later earned a Master’s degree in analytical philosophy in Switzerland. He has consistently combined his academic pursuits with a passion for football, studying tactics, statistics, and player analysis. Spalletti is also proficient in five languages, a skill set that will likely prove valuable in his new role at Genoa.
The decision for Spalletti to move to Genoa represents an opportunity for increased responsibility and independence within a Serie A club. While Juventus valued his contributions to youth scouting, Genoa will provide a platform for him to further develop his expertise. This move signals Genoa’s commitment to strengthening their scouting network as they prepare for the upcoming season. The transfer is not expected to have a significant impact on Juventus’ first-team operations, but it does mark a shift in the family dynamic between Luciano and Federico.
