Fiorentina are set to sign Radu Dragusin from Tottenham Hotspur on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy, according to reports in Italy. The agreement, which includes a loan fee of €1.5 million, also stipulates a mandatory purchase clause of €17.5 million.
The move sees Dragusin return to Italian football after a short spell in the Premier League. He joined Tottenham in January 2024 from Genoa for a reported fee of £25 million plus add-ons, alongside Djed Spence on loan, under the direction of then-sporting director Fabio Paratici. Despite showing promise, Dragusin struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in North London, making only a handful of appearances.
This transfer reunites Dragusin with Paratici, who initially brought the defender to Juventus in 2018. Paratici, now working as a consultant for Fiorentina, was instrumental in brokering the deal. Fiorentina previously attempted to sign Dragusin in January, but Tottenham were unwilling to sell at that time.
Dragusin is a 24-year-old Romanian international centre-back known for his physicality and ability to play with his right foot. He was named Romanian Footballer of the Year in the Premier League in 2023. Fiorentina have already secured the signing of defender Viery from Gremio this transfer window, and the addition of Dragusin further strengthens their defensive options ahead of the new season.
Fiorentina are aiming to have Dragusin available for the start of their pre-season training camp on July 13th. The club will hope the Romanian can quickly integrate into the team under new manager Fabio Grosso. This deal represents a relatively low-risk, high-reward acquisition for Fiorentina, securing a promising young defender with experience in both Italy and England.
