Nottingham Forest are increasingly confident that captain Morgan Gibbs-White will remain at the City Ground this summer, despite interest from several top clubs, according to TEAMtalk. The club anticipates the likely departure of Elliot Anderson, with Manchester City leading the race for the 22-year-old midfielder.
Manchester City are reportedly pushing to beat Manchester United to Anderson’s signature, viewing him as one of the Premier League’s outstanding young midfielders who would fit well into Pep Guardiola’s squad rebuild. A deal exceeding £100 million is now considered a realistic possibility if negotiations progress. Forest are aware of the growing pressure surrounding Anderson’s future and acknowledge a significant offer could be difficult to refuse.
The situation with Gibbs-White is markedly different. Forest are confident the 26-year-old will not actively seek an exit, having recently signed a new long-term contract. He remains central to the club’s plans and is expected to lead the team next season, regardless of Anderson’s potential departure. Club hierarchy view Gibbs-White as crucial both on the pitch and as a leader within the dressing room.
Gibbs-White himself is ambitious and hopes to secure a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming tournament. He believes regular football and continued responsibility at Forest will strengthen his international prospects. The club’s negotiating position is strengthened by Gibbs-White’s current contract, and there is currently no indication he is looking to leave. Forest’s summer recruitment plans are already being shaped around him remaining a key player, as they aim to avoid losing both pivotal midfielders in the same window.
Additionally, Forest’s hierarchy and senior players, including Gibbs-White and Anderson, have been impressed by the impact of manager Vitor Pereira since his arrival. The club are now open to discussing an improved long-term agreement with Pereira, despite previously considering other managerial options. While Fulham boss Marco Silva remains admired, Pereira’s recent performance has significantly enhanced his standing at the club.
