Nottingham Forest have had an opening bid of £38million for midfielder Lucas Bergvall rejected by Tottenham Hotspur, according to TEAMtalk. The North London club are reportedly holding out for a fee of £50million for the 20-year-old Swede.
Bergvall informed Tottenham at the beginning of the summer transfer window that he was seeking a move in order to secure regular first-team football. While manager Roberto De Zerbi was initially keen to retain the player, the arrival of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes for a combined £185million has altered the situation, with the club now willing to consider offers.
Forest have emerged as the frontrunners for Bergvall’s signature, and manager Oliver Glasner is believed to view him as a priority target following Elliot Anderson’s transfer to Manchester City. Glasner is reportedly confident that Bergvall’s technical ability and athleticism would be well-suited to his tactical system.
Tottenham are not under pressure to sell Bergvall, and will only sanction a departure if their £50million valuation is met. Several European clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Atlético Madrid, and Juventus, have expressed interest in the player, but are currently unwilling to match Spurs’ asking price. This leaves Premier League clubs as the most likely destination should Bergvall leave before the transfer window closes.
Sources indicate that Bergvall is receptive to a move to the City Ground, attracted by the prospect of working under Glasner. Forest are expected to consider submitting an improved bid in an attempt to convince Tottenham to sell.
