Former England goalkeeper Ben Foster has suggested Liverpool consider a move for West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen following the expected departure of Mohamed Salah and with Chelsea also reportedly interested in the player. The 29-year-old winger is widely anticipated to leave the London Stadium this summer after West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League.
Bowen has been a standout performer for West Ham since joining from Hull City in January 2020, accumulating 85 goals and 63 assists in 280 appearances. However, he remained non-committal about his future following the club’s drop into the Championship, opening the door for interest from multiple clubs. According to a report from The Independent, West Ham are now facing pressure to sell their key asset, who is currently under contract until 2030.
Chelsea, under incoming manager Xabi Alonso, are also said to be considering a bid for Bowen, with Alonso reportedly a long-time admirer of the player’s abilities. Foster believes Bowen could be a valuable addition to Liverpool as they seek to fill the void left by Salah’s exit, particularly given his proven track record in the Premier League. He made the suggestion on the Fozcast podcast.
While acknowledging Bowen isn’t a direct replacement for Salah, Foster believes he would represent a shrewd piece of business for Liverpool. He expressed confidence that Bowen could consistently score around 15 league goals per season if given the opportunity at Anfield. Foster suggested that Liverpool fans may prefer to pursue more high-profile targets, but believes Bowen’s reliability and experience would be beneficial.
Separately, West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes has been given permission to leave the club, with both Liverpool and Manchester United reportedly interested in securing his signature. The transfer window is expected to be a busy one for West Ham as they look to rebuild following relegation.
