Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho is reportedly open to a transfer to AS Roma, though a deal is currently hindered by financial discrepancies between the two clubs. The 21-year-old has been placed on Chelsea’s transfer list and relegated to the ‘Bomb Squad’, meaning he is training away from the first team under manager Xabi Alonso.
Garnacho joined Chelsea last summer for a fee of €46.2 million from Manchester United, after previously being deemed surplus to requirements by United’s then-head coach Ruben Amorim. His debut season at Stamford Bridge was considered underwhelming, with half of his eight goals coming against lower-league opposition in cup competitions.
Roma, under manager Gian Piero Gasperini, are looking to strengthen their attack ahead of their return to the Champions League and see Garnacho as a potential target. However, Chelsea are only entertaining permanent offers for the Argentine, demanding a €50 million fee, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. Roma are reportedly favouring an initial loan with an option to buy, a proposition Chelsea have so far rejected given their financial demands.
Data analytics firm SciSports has raised concerns about the suitability of a move to Roma, assigning the club a ‘Club Fit’ rating of 68 for Garnacho. The rating considers playing time prospects, tactical suitability, and development opportunities. SciSports suggests that Inter Milan would be a better fit with a rating of 79, but a tactical mismatch could prove problematic. Manchester City, while tactically suitable, are not believed to see Garnacho as a player capable of securing regular minutes.
Other potential destinations, such as Borussia Dortmund, face similar financial constraints, making a €50 million outlay unrealistic. Garnacho may be best served by attempting to regain favour at Chelsea, where SciSports gives the club a ‘Club Fit’ rating of 76. The situation remains fluid, with the player seemingly willing to move to Roma, but a deal hinges on Chelsea’s willingness to compromise on their asking price.
