Genoa are preparing a first offer for Young Boys Bern forward Alan Virginius, according to L’Équipe. The 23-year-old Frenchman has impressed in the Swiss Super League, scoring six goals and providing nine assists this past season, raising his profile amongst clubs across Europe.
Virginius initially departed Lille for Young Boys Bern on a permanent deal after a previous loan spell with the club during the 2024-2025 season. He began his professional career with Sochaux, progressing through their youth system before earning a move to Lille in 2022. While at Lille, opportunities were limited, prompting the loan move to Switzerland where he has since established himself as a key player.
Genoa’s interest in Virginius is not new, with the club having monitored the player’s progress last year. They are currently seeking to strengthen their attacking options, with Hamed Junior Traoré of Marseille also reported as a target. The Italian club views Virginius’s profile as a good fit for their squad as they look to build on their Serie A campaign.
Alongside Genoa, other European clubs are also tracking Virginius, including Bundesliga side Hamburg. Virginius is currently under contract with Young Boys Bern until June 2029, giving the Swiss club a strong negotiating position. The potential transfer could provide Virginius with the opportunity to play in one of Europe’s top five leagues, furthering his development and potentially earning international recognition with France.
The move represents a potential step up in competition for Virginius, while Genoa would be adding a dynamic attacker with a proven track record in Switzerland. Securing Virginius would bolster Genoa’s attacking options and provide competition for places within the squad.
