Borussia Mönchengladbach have reached a full agreement to sign Isac Lidberg from SV Darmstadt 98, according to Sky Germany. The Bundesliga club will pay a fee of €3.5 million, excluding potential bonuses, for the Swedish forward.
The deal will see Lidberg join Gladbach on a contract that extends until 2030, pending a successful medical examination. The transfer is expected to be officially announced in the coming days once the medical is completed. This move represents a significant step up for Lidberg, who has impressed in the 2. Bundesliga.
Lidberg enjoyed a prolific season with Darmstadt, scoring 17 goals in 30 appearances in the second tier. His goalscoring record was instrumental in Darmstadt’s promotion to the Bundesliga, making him a sought-after player during the transfer window. Prior to joining Darmstadt in January 2023, Lidberg played for GIF Sundsvall in his native Sweden, where he also demonstrated a consistent ability to find the back of the net.
Borussia Mönchengladbach have been in the market for attacking reinforcements following a disappointing Bundesliga campaign last season, finishing tenth. The club is undergoing a period of transition under manager Gerardo Seoane, and the addition of a proven goalscorer like Lidberg is seen as a key component of their plans to improve their attacking output. Darmstadt, meanwhile, will be looking to reinvest the fee received from Lidberg’s sale into strengthening their squad ahead of their return to the Bundesliga.
The transfer provides Lidberg with the opportunity to showcase his talent on a larger stage in the Bundesliga, while offering Gladbach a dynamic attacking option. His arrival will likely increase competition for places in the forward line, potentially pushing existing players to elevate their performance levels.
