TSG Hoffenheim have completed the permanent signing of Patrick Wimmer from fellow Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The 25-year-old Austrian international has signed a long-term contract with Hoffenheim, bolstering their attacking options ahead of the 2026-27 season. Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed.
Wimmer arrives at Hoffenheim after a period with Wolfsburg where he featured regularly in the Bundesliga. He made 33 appearances across all competitions for the Wolves last season, scoring five goals and providing three assists. Wolfsburg’s recent relegation from the Bundesliga prompted interest from a number of clubs, both within Germany and internationally, according to Hoffenheim sporting director Paul Pajduch.
TSG Hoffenheim’s pursuit of Wimmer was ultimately successful, with Pajduch expressing his delight at securing the player’s signature. He highlighted Wimmer’s versatility in attack and his existing qualities demonstrated in the Bundesliga as key factors in the decision. Pajduch also pointed to Wimmer’s intense playing style and tackling ability as a good fit for Hoffenheim’s tactical approach.
Wimmer’s arrival provides head coach Christian Ilzer with another attacking option as he looks to build a competitive squad. The Austrian forward is capable of playing in multiple positions across the front line, offering Ilzer tactical flexibility. Wimmer is currently preparing to represent Austria at the upcoming World Cup, providing him with valuable experience before joining up with his new teammates.
Pajduch believes Wimmer has the potential to further develop at Hoffenheim, suggesting the move will benefit both the player and the club. The signing represents a statement of intent from Hoffenheim as they aim to establish themselves as a consistent force in the Bundesliga. Wimmer’s integration into the squad will be crucial as Hoffenheim look to build on their existing strengths and challenge for European qualification.
