Mason Greenwood’s potential move to Fenerbahce is approaching finalization, with agreements in place with all parties except Olympique Marseille, according to reports from Turkish journalist Erdem Akbas. The transfer, described as a ‘five-legged operation’ involving Marseille, Manchester United, Getafe, Fenerbahçe, and the player himself, hinges on Marseille formally approving the deal.
Greenwood joined Marseille in July 2024 for a fee of €31.6 million, with Manchester United retaining a sell-on clause. He enjoyed a productive season in Ligue 1, scoring 21 goals and providing five assists in 34 appearances. He continued this form into the 2025/26 season, netting 21 goals and adding eight assists in 42 games across all competitions, attracting interest from Fenerbahce.
Fenerbahce presidential candidate Hakan Safi previously announced an agreement with Greenwood for a four-year contract, stating the player had “proven himself at the highest level of European football.” While Safi’s claims initially prompted clarification from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the pursuit has remained active. Romano reported in early June that Marseille are seeking a €55 million fee plus €5 million in add-ons for Greenwood.
Roma have also been linked with a move for the 24-year-old, with manager Gian Piero Gasperini reportedly a keen admirer. However, Fenerbahce are currently considered the frontrunners. Manchester United stand to benefit financially from the transfer through their pre-existing sell-on clause, potentially receiving a “substantial” sum. According to A Spor journalist Akbas, Fenerbahce have given Marseille a deadline of July 17th to finalize the agreement, indicating a desire to conclude the transfer swiftly. The move is expected to be officially announced once Marseille provide their formal consent.
