Bayern Munich defender Raphaël Guerreiro is contemplating retiring from professional football, according to sources at TZ München. The Portuguese international could reportedly make a final appearance in Saturday’s DFB Pokal final against VfB Stuttgart before ending his career.
The 32-year-old has faced a significant number of injury setbacks in recent seasons, and the constant cycle of rehabilitation is believed to be a major factor in his potential decision. Currently, there are no reports linking Guerreiro with a move to another club, further suggesting his focus is on his well-being.
Guerreiro initially arrived in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund in June 2016, joining from French side Lorient for a reported fee of €12 million. During his seven years with Dortmund, he established himself as a key player, winning two DFB-Pokal titles and becoming a fan favorite for his attacking contributions from left-back.
He moved to Bayern Munich as a free agent in 2023, signing a three-year contract with the Bavarian giants. Guerreiro quickly integrated into the Bayern squad, contributing to their consecutive Bundesliga titles in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons, as well as lifting the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup. Despite his success in Munich, persistent injuries have limited his playing time and overall impact.
Guerreiro has also been a regular feature for the Portuguese national team, earning 58 caps and representing his country at major tournaments. His potential retirement would represent a loss for both Bayern Munich and the Portuguese setup, though his recent injury struggles have impacted his availability for both sides. Should he retire, Guerreiro will be remembered as a dynamic and versatile full-back who enjoyed success in both Germany and on the international stage.
